K & W mac and cheese

I'm not sure how my grandmother got the recipe from K & W, but this is probably the easiest and yummiest mac and cheese ever. I used to make it for my brother and his friends in college and they loved it when I added diced ham to it and would eat it as a complete meal :)

Ingredients:
8 oz macaroni, uncooked
2 cups cottage cheese
1 cup sour cream
1 large egg, slightly beaten
3 cups cheddar cheese, grated
1 tsp. Salt

Directions: Cook macaroni according to package; drain. Mix all ingredients, reserving ¾ cup cheddar cheese to sprinkle on top. Bake in buttered baking dish until bubbly on top; approx. 35 minutes at 350

My name is Nate and I want to thank you for this recipe. Every time I have gone to K&W for the last 30 years I have eaten the mac and cheese. I will leave the restaurant if they don't have it, that's how much I love it. I am trying your recipe tommorow, and will thank you again if it really is the right recipe. Thank you

I liked it, however I thought it had a little too much sour cream. When I make it next, I'd tweak it a little and not put AS MUCH sour cream. Other than that, no complaints!

An excellent recipe! I added gouda cheese to add to the flavor. Even my 2 teenage nephews loved it and took some home for later.

I moved to an area without k&w... Actually come to think of it there are no cafeterias around. I already tried this recipe and it is fantastic! Tastes just like theirs! Thank you!!

Just tried this recipe last night - thank you SOOOO much! The mac & cheese took me right back to the 70s - dining at K&W at North Hills Mall in Raleigh with my family. Great memories and a great recipe - thank you again for sharing!

The absolute best!!! I added half a block of cream cheese & blended the cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream & egg in the blender to smooth out the cottage cheese & it was absolutely amazing!! Thank you for this recipe!!

This is the real, authentic mac & cheese from K&W. My daughter-in-law has always been crazy about this dish, but now lives away from the real K&W. Now I can make it for her any time. Awesome!

I have been looking for a great soul food-style baked macaroni and cheese recipe. This is the fifth one I've tried. It's the winner!!! It tasted soooo good! I used low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat sour cream, and reduced fat grated sharp cheddar cheese. I added some pepper and a sprinkle of soul food seasoning to the mixture. I also sprayed the baking dish with butter cooking spray rather than butter. I'm glad that I could cut the calories and fat as much as possible and yet it still tasted great! Thanks for posting it!

Made this today- my daughter is the real Mac and cheese tester, we used to go to go to K&W in the 70s. She said it's he same-- big compliment. Should try definitely! Wouldn't change anything in the recipe, just as is😍

My family (and my work family) LOVE this recipe. It is easy to 1/2 when you you need a smaller batch. Can you cook it in a crock pot? If yes - do you make any adjustments to the ingredients? And for how long and what temp (low at 4 hours I am guessing)?

This is our new go-to family recipe. Mac & cheese is our favorite side dish so we are always looking for a good casserole version - not cheese sauce.
I am thrilled with this recipe! Thank you for sharing.
